dc.description	"World mining has experienced a notable boom over the last few years. In addition to the notable increase in the price of several mining products on world markets, one can add the dynamics of the investment flows made by large international mining firms. Latin America has not been oblivious to this phenomenon and, nowadays, many countries in the region benefit from a notable increase in foreign investment flows and a significant increase in mining exports. This unusual dynamism has occurred at a time in which a new paradigm has arisen, based on a review of the experience in several countries, which states that mining can be an engine for development. In this context, certain questions regarding the situation of mining in Colombia and of its economic and social impact in the country and in the regions where it takes place gain particular importance. This study, ontracted by asomineros Chamber of the National Association of Colombia Businessmen - andi - delves into this issue and seeks to answer these questions. The first chapter contains a review of the new paradigm regarding the role of mining in economic development and makes an assessment of several success stories. The second chapter offers an overall vision of the impact of mining on the Colombian economy in recent years, while the third chapter undertakes an evaluation of the role of mining on regional development. Chapter four assesses the competitive position of Colombian mining in an international context. Lastly, the fifth chapter shows the impact of mining on certain additional dimensions of social and regional development. Before presenting the content of the aforementioned chapters, we submit an executive summary of the work."	spa
