Editorial.
Abstract
Abstract
Remittances are current transfers by emigrants to their country of origin and are recorded in the current transfer sub-account of the Balance of Payments of Colombia. Lately, remittances have become important as a source of external income in Colombia. In fact, in 2018 they accounted for 7.7% of current account revenues. Moreover, its relative stability has contributed positively to the evolution of the current income of the balance of payments. In this order of ideas, in this Editorial we study the determinants of remittances in Colombia, as well as their characteristics and recent evolution, in order to present our perspectives on the behavior of this type of transfers in our country in the coming years.
During 2019 until November, inflation has been within the target range established by the Banco de la República, although above the objective, located on average at 3.5% with a growing path since March 2019, where it reached its highest value in October with 3.86%, recovering slightly in November, registering a value of 3.84%. This is explained by the increase in food prices and by the increase in the inflation of tradable goods.
